Prineville, Oregon is the oldest incorporated town in Central Oregon. Prineville is located in Crook County, the geographic heart of Oregon. This ranching and farming community still has an Old West atmosphere, which is enhanced by the presence of the historic circa 1909 Crook County Courthouse.

Boating and fishing are year round activities at the Prineville Reservoir State Park. Fishing is always good - try casting your line for rainbow and cutthroat trout, small and large mouth bass, catfish, brown bullhead, or crappie. Avid fishermen can try ice fishing for trout in the winter. Camping facilities are available at the reservoir, including RV hookups, tent camping, cabins, boat moorage, showers and more.

Prineville's A. R. Bowman Museum is housed in the historic Crook County Bank Building. Built in 1910 of stone blocks from a local quarry, the Romanesque architecture of the building is a fitting background for the museum's artifacts and displays of Crook County history. Exhibits include a Hall of History, where visitors can walk through railroad, ranching and timber displays from Crook County's past, an additional display on the history of the U.S. Forest Service, and a research library. Smaller exhibits depict everyday pioneer life and local history.

Dastardly deeds are afoot on the Crooked River Railroad Dinner Train. Murder mysteries are their specialty, with characters that all look slightly guilty. Families will relish guessing which one is the villain, while enjoying dinner or a Sunday brunch. Owned and operated by the City of Prineville Railway, the train trip travels thirty eight miles between Redmond and Prineville.
