Sacramento City Unified School District.     -  "Our District is 150 years old. It began in 1854 on the corner of 5th and K Streets. There were two teachers and about 50 boys and 40 girls aged seven through nine. Sacramento High School, the second oldest high school west of the Mississippi opened in 1856. The first kindergarten was opened in 1895."
