Hillsboro takes pride in its Parks and Recreation system. There are nine park facilities in the area, and two new ones are under construction. The Fairgrounds Sports Complex features three baseball diamonds, four tennis courts, and a soccer/football field. The Hillsboro Aquatic Center has a 25 meter L shaped swimming pool, racquet ball courts, saunas, exercise facilities and a hydro-therapy pool. Other parks in the area have playground equipment, basketball courts, picnic and barbecue areas and walking trails. For more information, the Park and Recreation Facilities are located at 626 SE Ninth Ave, (503) 681-6120.
The nationally known Ghost Creek Golf Course at Pumpkin Ridge was named Golf Digest's #1 New Public Course for 1992. Named for the nine water hazards that appear and disappear, this course is a golfer's dream. The scenic vistas of the Coast Range, Cascade Mountains, and the rolling farmland of the Willamette Valley add to the golfing experience.
Hillsboro is halfway between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. All of the pleasures of the ocean beaches and the mountains are available to visitors and residents. Hiking, fishing, camping, skiing, boating, river rafting, and kayaking are only a few of the recreational opportunities awaiting you. For more local sights, take the Wine Country Scenic Loop and visit the wineries and shops along the way. Tour maps are available at the Greater Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.
In June, the Rose Festival Airshow is held at the Hillsboro Airport. This airshow can draw up to 100,000 spectators. Many other recreational events are held in the greater Portland area.
