Small town charm, life on the waterfront, easy access to big
city amenities - all of these describe the "City of Dogwoods".
Located between historical Oregon
City and Portland,
on Highways 99E and 224 in Clackamas County, Milwaukie offers
all that and more to visitors and residents. Named as one of the
50 best places to raise a family, Milwaukie provides a clean environment,
good transportation, schools and health care,
and many cultural opportunities.
Recreational excitement includes whitewater kayaking on the Clackamas
River, or fishing, hiking or mountain biking in one of the
more than 100 parks in Clackamas County. Access to the Willamette
River waterfront is available via the Jefferson Street boat ramp
and Elk Rock Island. Swim or try the climbing wall at
the state-of-the-art North Clackamas Aquatics Park, which has
a wave pool, lap and diving pools, kiddie pool and spa.
Whole grain flours, organic grains and delicious meals are the
specialties of the house at Bob's Red Mill. Located at 5000 S.E.
International Way in Milwaukie, the mill store offers natural
grains ground on century-old French buhr millstones. Many specialty
flours, whole grain foods and mixes are available for purchase
in the mill store. Kids especially enjoy watching the water wheel
turn, and tasting the breads and cookies from the restaurant inside.
Living in Milwaukie allows easy access to many exciting
areas of Oregon. Being close to Portland,
only minutes away, lets visitors enjoy all of the excitement of
the big city. Portland offers shopping, sights, nightlife, arts
and outings. Mt. Hood, just an hour away, has year-round snow
skiing. The Pacific Ocean and all the Oregon coast has to offer
is only two hours away, and the spectacular beauty and recreational
opportunities of the Columbia Gorge is only a half hour away.
