Centrally placed for entertainment and recreation, Junction City began as a transportation junction for east and west railroad lines. The west side railroad line was never built, but many years later, the city became the junction for the two main branches of the Pacific Highway in the Willamette Valley. For those who like small town amenities but still want access to big town excitement, Junction City is for you!

Outdoor events transform Junction City throughout the year as streets are closed for annual festivals. They include the famous Scandinavian Festival in August, the Function 4 Junction classic car cruise in June, and the Parade of Lights in December.

Local crafts and foods highlighting the town's Scandinavian heritage make these celebrations unique to Junction City. In mid-March, the Daffodil Drive on Ferguson Road, west of Junction City, is a favorite way to start spring.

Junction City is between Oregon State University in Corvallis and University of Oregon in Eugene. This allows visitors and residents to enjoy the many PAC-10 sporting events, theatre and dance productions, films, cultural exhibits and concerts held in these major university towns.

Golfers can tee off at Junction City's private 18 hole Shadow Hills Country Club course, or visit the public Fiddler's Green Golf Course or Laurelwood Golf Course just a short distance away in Eugene. Fiddler's Green is an 18 hole flat course, open all year. It is known for its pro shop, which is one of the largest on course shops in the world. This excellent course is perfect for beginners and families. Laurelwood is a 9 hole course with hilly terrain, open year round. Reservations are recommended on this popular course (541-687-5321).
