The Willamette Meteorite was found by Ellis Hughes in 1902, about two miles west of the town of Willamette, Oregon. Willamette was incorporated in 1913 as part of the city of West Linn, Oregon. Weighing 15 1/2 tons, it is one of the largest meteorites ever found on earth. The meteorite is currently at the American Museum of Natural History in New York.
