Surrounded by farmland, Woodburn, Oregon flourishes in the heart of the Willamette Valley just 35 miles south of Portland. The railroad and vision of Jesse H. Settlemier gave birth to the city of Woodburn in 1889. Woodburn has a rich cultural base because of the large populations of Anglos, Hispanics, Mennonites, Russians and senior citizens who have come to live, work and play here.
Woodburn Company Stores is one of Oregon's largest outlet malls, and one of the highlights of Woodburn. This ultimate outlet mall features many name brand stores. Check their directory for a full listing. Covered walkways make shopping a pleasant experience, regardless of the weather.
Beaches on the Pacific Coast are a little more than an hour from the Woodburn area, and the Cascade Mountains with their famous hunting, fishing, skiing and hiking opportunities are within an hour's drive.
An old steam locomotive, Engine 1785, was cosmetically restored. So far, Engine 1785 holds claim to the distinction of the best cosmetic restoration of an engine of its period west of the Mississippi River.
The City of Woodburn operates the Woodburn Memorial Aquatic Center. The facility includes a 25-meter by 25-yard pool, a 50' slide, rope swing, a shallow wading pool for children and an on-deck spa and spacious dressing rooms equipped with sauna. Be sure to visit the nearby Oregon Garden and Woodburn Dragstrip while in the area.
